New York Farm Viability Institute

A Strong Future for New York Agriculture

New York Farm Viability Institute 2007 Annual Report

In 2007, the Institute managed 76 projects that received funding awards in 2005 and 2006. Those grants totaled more than $6.7 million for farm-based project work.

Over the past year, project leaders worked with approximately 2,000 farms in 55 New York counties. The farms reflect the diversity of New York agriculture, including small and large-sized operations with many different production and management practices. Agricultural sectors represented in project work included bioenergy, crops and forage, dairy, equine, fruit, green, livestock, maple and vegetable.

Project work included business planning and new venture feasibility analysis, value-added product development, outreach education, environmental management, animal and crop production, and human resource management.
